Pretty Little Liars Pilot

Via Whedonesque, I found this little write-up at Sci Fi Wire where Alexis Denisof talked a little bit about the pilot for the new potential ABC (ABC Family?) series, Pretty Little Liars. I didn't realize they were actually filming the pilot at about the time the project was (presumably) originally announced last month until I read they had already wrapped up shooting in Vancouver, British Columbia before Christmas.

Per Alexis,
"It centers around five teenage girls, one of whom is deceased," Denisof said in an exclusive interview Thursday in Beverly Hills, Calif. (He was escorting his wife, former Buffy the Vampire Slayer regular Alyson Hannigan, to an event for her show, How I Met Your Mother.) As for the show, he added, "She's around as an entity that the other characters have to deal with. I play one of the parents of the central figure. It's a good story. I think it will appeal to multigenerational viewers."
If the gods answer our prayers, ABC will pick up the series, and Alexis will return to Vancouver to begin filming in the spring.

Alexis is "one of the parents of the central figure". Does that mean he's the father of the deceased girl? If so, it sounds like he would have a meatier role than simply being the Dopey Dad of a teenager. I'll let you read the rest of the article, but I do want to mention this promising part:
"It's got a sense of humor," he said. "It addresses serious issues, but it has some fun with it. It's current but also has some mystery to it, so it's a good blend, I think."
Sounds like it would be right up my alley.

I know that British Columbia offers generous tax credits for production companies that film up there. I'm not sure if he'll be there mostly for outdoor location shooting, or if all of the filming will take place in Vancouver. I can feel a rant coming on about the race to the bottom with tax incentives that I'd best leave for my Wolfram & Hart Hall of Fame blog. Regardless, best wishes to Alexis and to the rest of the cast members.

Update 1/17/2010: I think I jumped to conclusions when I wondered if Alexis would play the father of the deceased girl. All indications point to his TV daughter being very much alive!
